The Future of General Aviation Security

After the outcry from the general aviation industry over the proposed Large Aircraft Security Program, the TSA is in the process of rewriting the proposed rule. The TSA is expected to release the revamped rule early next year, and it may include changes such as providing the pilot with more authority in ensuring that the aircraft is secure, some relief in the rules of what would be prohibited on an aircraft, and finally the weight threshold for the rule may increase. This session provided an opportunity to meet with officials responsible for the new rule and give them face-to-face input on these changes. Also, to learn what else is in store for the general aviation community on the security front in 2010.
