Dan L. Meisinger, Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship

The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship is the newest addition to the scholarship program sponsored by NATF. The fund was established in the honor and memory of Dan L. Meisinger Sr., whose career in aviation spanned 63 years. He was founder of Executive Beechcraft, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., and was twice named Beech Aircraft's Man of the Year. The purpose of this fund is to provide an annual flight training scholarship to a qualified individual.

The NATA Flight Training Committee (selection committee) will perform the initial screening. The group will provide a list of candidates to NATF without regard to race, religion, gender, disability or national origin.

The NATF board of directors will make the final selection from the list of qualified candidates for the Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship. The award will be announced each year during NATA's annual convention.

Eligibility
Applicants for the Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship must:
  • Be a college student currently enrolled in an aviation program.
  • Be a high academic achiever with a "B," or better, average.
  • Be recommended by an aviation professional, although an individual application will be considered.
  • Be a resident of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois (preferably).

Interested candidates must complete the enclosed official application and submit it along with any supporting documentation to the committee no later than the last Friday in November.

Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information and supporting documentation. Applications are evaluated on the basis of information supplied. Therefore, it is important to answer all questions as completely as possible. Additional sheets may be used as necessary.

All information received becomes the property of NATF, is considered confidential, and is reviewed only by the screening committee and NATF officials.

Selection of Recipients
Semifinalists are selected by the committee based on their academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, and relevant work experience.

Semifinalists may be asked to submit additional data to the NATF board of directors, who will make the final selection from the field of candidates submitted by the committee. The recipient will be notified in writing at the earliest possible date. All other applicants will be notified in writing by mid-April.

Payment of Scholarships
The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship will be paid in two equal installments of $1,250 each. Checks will be mailed to the recipient's home address and will be made payable jointly to the recipient and the participating flight school (and must be endorsed by both).

The first installment will be made within 30 days after official notification, and upon receipt by NATF of a certificate of enrollment cosigned by the recipient and NATA-member company official. The second installment will be mailed after the recipient completes six months of training or completion (whichever occurs first) and provides a copy of the course completion certificate, signed by both the recipient and flight school.

Obligations
Recipients are required to supply copies of pertinent training records if requested, and to notify NATF of any changes of address, school enrollment or other relevant information. Except as described in this brochure, no obligation is assumed by NATF, members of its screening committee, or the NATA. Tax liability, if any, will be the sole responsibility of the recipient.

Revisions
NATF reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures and to make changes at any time, including termination, of the scholarship program. Previously approved scholarships will not be affected by subsequent changes to the program.
