nullFAA Survey Prelude To Tail-End Ferry Changes

The FAA is preparing to release a survey of Part 135 on-demand operators to gauge the impact of new rules applying flight time and rest requirements to tail-end ferry flights. The survey questions are provided in a Notice published last month announcing that the FAA is seeking approval from the Office of Management and Budget to collect the data. FAA is requesting comments as to the adequacy of the questions and the potential burden to operators that participate.

The FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, Section 345 (Public Law 112-95), requires the FAA to initiate rulemaking to apply Part 135 flight time limits and rest requirements to Part 91 tail-end flights. For more information, members can visit the Issue Page (Requires Member Login).

nullPolicy Change for FAA Approved Training Devices

The FAA announced a change of policy that will require aviation training devices to meet the standards detailed in AC 61-136 entitled “FAA Approval of Basic Aviation Training Devices (BATD) and Advanced Aviation Training Devices (AATD).” This includes FAA approved ground trainers, Personal Computer Aviation Training Devices (PCATD), Flight Training Devices (FTD) level 1-3 and Aviation Training Devices (ATD).  Devices that have been approved between July 14, 2008 and August 23, 2013 must be reissued an LOA without the need for additional evaluation. Devices approved prior to July 14, 2008 must be reevaluated under AC 61-136 to receive a new LOA. The deadline for those devices needing an LOA re-approval is January 1, 2015. Click here to read the notice in the federal register and here to access AC 61-136.
