 FAA Extends Time for Comment on Proposed Policy for Non-aeronautical Use of Airport Hangars
The FAA is extending the comment deadline by 30 days for its proposed statement of policy on use of airport hangars to clarify compliance requirements for airport sponsors, airport managers, airport tenants, state aviation officials, and FAA compliance staff. The original comment deadline was on or by September 5, 2014. On Friday, NATA filed comments on the proposed policy. While generally supportive of the proposal, the association recommended FAA not limit the use of non-aviation items based on item, but rather allow any item so long as it does not interfere with the aviation use of the hangar or create a threat to safety. In addition, NATA recommended that active homebuilt aircraft assembly - regardless of stage - be considered aeronautical use.
Senators Echo House Colleagues and Industry Stakeholders on Urgency for Quick Action of Third-Class Medical Reform
On September 2nd, eleven Senators sent a letter to the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) urging the departments to take quick action on a review of a time-sensitive FAA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to reform the medical certification process. Swift review of the proposal will allow for the FAA to open the NPRM for public comment in a timely manner. The letter is one of a series of letters sent to DOT and OMB from industry stakeholders and federal lawmakers on the urgency of swift action of the NPRM. Recently, letters from members of the House General Aviation Caucus, co-sponsors of the General Aviation Pilot Protection Act, and NATA, along with numerous national aviation associations, have been sent with a similar request.

Participate in NATA Flag Pins for Veterans Project – NATA Welcomes Bakersfield Jet Center by Loyd’s Aviation and American Jet Charter
NATA is working with industry to raise charitable donations for organizations supporting America's veterans. NATA members are asked to participate by securing and displaying American-made flag pins in their operations with signage suggesting a donation of at least $1.00 per pin. The funds for this project will be collected periodically through NATA. The project will run through October 2014 culminating in a check presentation to the veterans organizations.
