NATA and Industry Emphasize Importance of FAA Aircraft Registry During Government Shutdown

In response to the government shutdown, NATA President Marty Hiller joined the heads of other major general aviation associations in a letter to Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao requesting the FAA’s Aircraft Registration Branch open despite the government shutdown. The associations emphasized the importance of the registry’s activities to the general aviation community. “It’s ironic the one aspect of the government shutdown of most immediate concern to general aviation, the shuttering of the FAA’s aircraft registry, could have been avoided had House Republicans dropped its proposed ‘airlinization’ of air traffic control and approved the FAA authorization  a provision which removes any possible confusion about the registry remaining open during these shutdowns,” stated Hiller. As of Monday afternoon, it appears Congress is poised to reopen the government through February 8th

NATA Submits Comments to FAA on AC 145-9A, Guide for Developing and Evaluating Repair Station and Quality Control Manuals

On January 17th, NATA submitted comments to the FAA Deputy Director, Office of Safety Standards regarding the agency’s latest revision to AC 145-9A. NATA noted the technical and policy-related improvement of AC 145-9A; however, the AC did not contain change bars to mark revisions, forcing users to compare the previous AC with the latest version.

NATA added that the use of revision bars is a best practice in document control and configuration management, and the agency itself expects such a practice from industry when commenting upon FAA proposals.

NATA requested the FAA consider updating the AC to show the changes that took place by utilizing the change bar feature or another acceptable method.
