NATA EVP Obitts Discusses Vital GA Topics at Industry Events
|
|
Today, NATA EVP Tim Obitts, along with other association leaders, discussed the state of the GA industry at AAAE's General Aviation Issues Conference and will join Euro Jet this Friday, September 14th, to speak at their 10-year Anniversary event in Prague.
On September 20th, Obitts, will provide an update to Cincinnati Business Aviation Symposium (CBAS) attendees on illegal charter and NATA’s ongoing efforts led by the NATA Illegal Charter Task Force to combat this industry threat. FAA to Host 2018 Aviation Workforce Symposium
|
|
The FAA is sponsoring an Aviation Workforce Symposium on September 13, 2018, at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in D.C. The event will start with a scene-setting discussion followed by three discussion panels:
- Priming the Pipeline will explore efforts and ideas for attracting young people to these exciting professions.
- Pathways to Proficiency will address ways to improve the quality and efficiency of training.
- Productive Partnerships will discuss existing and potential partnerships that offer a career path.
The symposium will provide an important forum for participants to explore the scope of issues, share strategies and best practices to address this opportunity, and ask the community to help develop and commit to specific steps for cooperation and collaboration.

This Week NATA to Host 2nd Annual Ground Handling Safety Symposium and Industry Town Hall
|
|
This week, attendees of NATA’s second annual Ground Handling Safety Symposium (GHSS) will participate in the industry’s only event focused on the operational safety needs of FBOs and other GA ground handlers. GHSS speakers include: Benjamin Goodheart, PhD of Versant, Tim Collins of Service Elements International, Don Baldwin of Baldwin Aviation and NATA’s Michael France. Unique to this year, attendees will hear case studies from TAC Air, Facet and Wilson Air — in which participants will discuss best practices for ground handling. Chantilly Air to Construct New FBO
|
| |
At Manassas Regional Airport, Chantilly Air received authorization to construct a new FBO joining APP Jet Center and Duller Aviation. This $13 million facility is expected to begin this fall, in hopes of being completed by the end of next year. The project involves a three-story 24,000-sq-ft terminal, with the upper two floors designated to company and tenant offices. It will consist of a passenger lounge, conference room, flight planning area, fitness center and other amenities. Furthermore, Chantilly Air will include 60,000 sq. ft. of heated hangar space, to support the latest large-cabin business jets, producing a total of 80,000 sq. ft. of aircraft storage at this general aviation airport.
“With a recent economic impact study showing Manassas Regional Airport as the busiest general aviation airport in the Commonwealth of Virginia and accounting for roughly 30 percent of the statewide $1.1 billion in economic activity, the timing could not have been better to build a premier FBO facility,” said Caleb Stitely, the company’s marketing and client relations manager.

Larry Hogan Proclaims September as General Aviation and Community Airport Month
|
| |
Maryland’s Governor, Larry Hogan, signed a proclamation last week to designate September 2018 as “General Aviation and Community Airport Month”, in the state of Maryland. This declaration emphasizes the importance of Maryland’s airport system and general aviation to the state’s economy and transportation network. Of the 35 public-use general aviation airports, the Maryland aviation structure generates and supports 9,368 jobs and over $865 million in business-generated revenue. Likewise, the state’s airports serve 7,961 pilots and 2,284 general aviation aircraft. The proclamation highlights that general aviation plays a crucial role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters.
“General aviation and local airports play an important role in our state, connecting communities across Maryland and supporting thousands of jobs for our citizens,” said Governor Hogan. “Our administration remains committed to supporting our local airports and our aviators, who provide an important public service and contribute to our state’s thriving economy.”

Recently, the Air Charter Safety Foundation (ACSF) announced that Fair Wind Air Charter is the newest operator to join the ACSF-ASAP program.
