John McGraw Discusses FAA's Move to Streamline Training in Latest Podcast

In our latest podcast, NATA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs John McGraw discusses the FAA’s recently issued guidance, which allows Part 135 operators to train their pilots at certified training centers using a standardized curriculum. On October 15th, the FAA issued the new Advisory Circular (AC) for public comment in response to recommendations from an industry working group led by McGraw. NATA encourages operators to review the AC and provide comments, questions and concerns to the FAA by the November 13 deadline. Hear what the FAA’s much needed update to training guidance means for on-demand carriers and how it will result in a more dynamic, responsive and efficient training program. Listen to the podcast here.

The event – Business Jets Fuel Green: A Step Toward Sustainability, scheduled for January 17, 2019, at the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) in Southern California — will demonstrate that SAJF can become a mainstream, drop-in alternative for today’s general aviation aircraft. Jet fuel blended with SAJF will be available for use across the airport during the event, as operators fuel up and fly with the sustainable product — VNY’s four fixed-based operators (FBOs) have collaborated to participate in this initiative. Deadhorse Aviation Center (DAC) Safety Achievement | 100,000 Incident-Free Hours

Last week, the staff of DAC was recognized for their outstanding achievement of working over 100,000 incident-free hours since it became operational in 2012. The milestone is even greater when considering that the DAC, clients, and contractors have been incident-free since its initial construction in 2009. Located in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska, the DAC operates in a harsh and relentless Arctic environment and serves as the main hub for ConocoPhillips and BP’s crew changes. “I attribute DAC’s success and strong safety culture, in large part, to the collaboration between our team and DAC’s great contractors and clients,” says Rick Fox, CEO of Fairweather, LLC who is part owner and operates the DAC. Six incident-free years at the DAC have been the result of an unwavering commitment to safety from its employees and leadership. Click here to read more.

Phillips 66® Aviation awarded $22,000 to longtime partner, Corporate Angel Network (CAN). The award recognizes four corporate flight departments each year. This year’s Corporate Angel Award recipients are ConocoPhillips, Honeywell, Ultimate Jet Charter and Dow Chemical. There are more than 500 major corporations that participate in CAN. “These days, the fight against cancer is personal – for everybody. Congratulations: American Aero FTW Becomes First FBO to Earn IS-BAH Stage III Registration

NATA would like to congratulate member and Safety 1st Qualified participant, American Aero FTW for recently becoming the first FBO to earn IS-BAH Stage III Registration!

American Aero FTW, FBO serving flight crews and passengers at Meacham International Airport in Fort Worth, TX, became the first FBO in the world to earn a new Stage III safety and ground handling certificate of registration from the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC). IBAC’s International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH) registration is a global, voluntary code of best practices for business aviation ground handlers. It incorporates a safety management system (SMS) in all aspects of FBO operations and is aligned with the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO). “When I created American Aero FTW, I set forth to redefine the FBO experience for passengers and crews and deliver an exceptional customer experience at every touchpoint,” said American Aero FTW founder Robert M. Bass. “This milestone reflects that vision and demonstrates our commitment to deliver unparalleled safety and service.”

Click here to read more about American Aero FTW’s accomplishment. Check out the FBO/Ground Handling Status Map to see what other service facilities are Safety 1st Qualified and/or IS-BAH registered. To find out more about the IS-BAH program, please visit http://nata.aero/Safety-1st.aspx.
