Global Business Aviation Coalition Showcases Viability of Sustainable Alternative Jet Fuels

This past Saturday, at TAG Farnborough Airport, the coalition of business aviation organizations behind the sustainable alternative jet fuel initiative joined forces to take the next important step in its journey towards reducing carbon emissions.

Participating in the EU Sustainable Energy Week under the theme “Shaping the EU’s Energy Future,” global business aviation leaders discussed the path forward for the continued adoption of SAJF in Europe during a day-long, multifaceted event.

Aircraft from major manufacturers, such as Bombardier, Gulfstream, Cirrus, Embraer, Piaggio, Dassault and Textron Aviation, fueled up on SAJF at airports across Europe and the United States--including TAG Farnborough Airport, England (EGLF); Caen - Carpiquet Airport, France (LFRK); Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden (ESSA); and Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY (KFRG) at Sheltair--for demonstration flights showcasing the viability of sustainable alternative jet fuel.

The event clearly demonstrated three key points:
   - SAJF is safe and does not impact aircraft performance.
   - SAJF offers great impact and benefits to the airport and the community, including reduced particulate matter.
   - SAJF reflects the commitment by business aviation to aircraft carbon reduction.

“The Sustainable Alternative Jet Fuel (SAJF) message is being spread far and wide thanks to an ever-growing coalition of aviation business stakeholders. NATA and its members are proud to support efforts that demonstrate SAJF in practice and the commitment of our industry to corporate and environmental responsibility,” said Gary Dempsey, NATA President. FAA Issues Letter Provided Guidance on Handling the Inadvertent Use of DEF Instead of FSII in Aircraft

The FAA’s Office of Airport Safety and Operations released a letter in October 2018 providing guidance and awareness on addressing the inadvertent use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) instead of Fuel System Icing Inhibitor (FSII) in aircraft. The letter was in response to an incident that occurred in August 2018 where several aircraft at an executive airport were serviced with jet fuel containing DEF.

The FAA writes, “The fueling agent inadvertently used DEF instead of FSII on a refueling truck and injected into the fuel with the truck’s FSII injection system.” The letter outlines several recommendations for the industry to follow in order to help prevent such incidents from occurring.

Please contact Mr. Dale Williams, Office of Airport Safety and Operations, AAS-300 by email at dale.williams@faa.gov with any questions or concerns you may have.

Jetscape Services Supports the 2019 Fort Lauderdale Airshow with Fuel and Ground Handling

The 2019 Fort Lauderdale Airshow took place at Fort Lauderdale Beach on May 4 and 5. For the second time, Jetscape was honored to support the seven Blue Angels F-18’s Hornets, two F-22 Raptors, a C-17 Globemaster, and a C-130 Hercules (Fat Albert) during their rehearsals and the event. Jetscape had the privilege to become one of the sponsors for this event. They made a great location to support the event thanks to their satellite ramp located just west of their base terminal called Jetscape Alpha. The location provided ample space for tall-tail aircraft, a discrete ramp, and the ability of converting the ramp on/off secure area by closing the fence enabling the media to traverse the ramp freely without escort. “It was a privilege and honor to support our military during this event. All the team members were the best of the best and incredible to work with to produce an amazing airshow.” Says Troy Menken, President. Read more.

Northern Jet Management Renews ACSF Industry Audit Standard (IAS) Registration

Last week, the Air Charter Safety Foundation (ACSF) announced that Northern Jet Management, Grand Rapids, MI, has renewed its status on the ACSF Industry Audit Standard (IAS) Registry. “We congratulate Northern Jet Management on renewing their status on the IAS Registry,” said ACSF President Bryan Burns. “They have once again demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement.” The IAS is the first and only extensive audit program specifically created for on-demand operators by a committee of Part 135 and 91K industry leaders. It is conducted every 24 months and is in-depth in its evaluation of regulatory compliance and the operator’s SMS program against both FAA and international standards. Customers should look for the ACSF IAS registered logo and encourage their preferred charter provider to participate in the program. The ACSF makes its operator registry and key company details available at no charge, so verification of IAS registration is quick and easy. Charter consumers can view the registry at www.acsf.aero/registry. Supporting materials are available at www.acsf.aero/audit. Operators wishing to initiate the audit process should contact Russ Lawton at 1-888-SAFE-135 (888-723-3135).
