NATA Applauds Senate on Reconfirmation of NTSB Chairman Sumwalt and Member Homendy

Last Thursday, NATA congratulated the Senate on the reconfirmations of Robert Sumwalt and Jennifer Homendy as Chairman and Member, respectively, of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Sumwalt was sworn in as the 14th Chairman of the NTSB on August 10, 2017, after being nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the Senate. The Honorable Jennifer Homendy first took the oath of office as the 44th Member of the NTSB on August 20, 2018.

“Chairman Robert Sumwalt has been a great friend and champion of safety in our community. We are pleased that both he and Member Homendy been confirmed to serve additional terms. NATA applauds Chairman Sumwalt's leadership in promoting the continuous improvement of safety and we look forward to continuing to work with him and Member Homendy in advancing the agency's initiatives." stated NATA President Gary Dempsey. 135 Operators Tell Us How Illegal Charter Is Affecting Your Business

NATA has released a survey in conjunction with its Fly Smarter: Avoid Illegal Charter website (www.avoidillegalcharter.com) to collect information about illegal charter activity in the business aviation community. The Avoid Illegal Charter website provides tools and educational resources to assist the industry and public in avoiding illegal charter. NATA hopes to gather data and feedback through the survey on the impacts of illegal air charter that the Association can then use in future advocacy efforts. NATA would greatly appreciate it if any members who have been affected by illegal charter took 5-10 minutes to fill out the survey here.

NATA is here to listen to your experiences and concerns regarding illegal charter activities and represent your interests. Your responses will remain anonymous and neither you nor your company will be identified. NATA asks that operators make their best effort to only have one survey response per company. By working together as an industry, we will be able to put an end to illegal charter and the detrimental impacts it has on our industry.

ACSF’s Aviation Safety Action Program Surpasses 5,000 Reports

The Air Charter Safety Foundation’s (ACSF) is has announced that it has surpassed 5,000 reports submitted into its Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP). ACSF is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration as a third-party ASAP program manager, in order to share, verify and mitigate aviation safety-related issues. The goal of ASAP is to enhance aviation safety through the prevention of incidents and accidents. The ACSF ASAP currently has 145 participating companies (67 Part 135 charter operators and 78 Part 91 flight departments), who voluntarily report and help resolve safety issues in a “non-threatening” environment. “This is a major milestone, as these 5,000 safety events might not have been reported without the operators’ participation in the ASAP program,” said ACSF President Bryan Burns. “There’s a wealth of significant data being collected and shared, and we’ve partnered with the leading aviation safety organizations to integrate the data collection process into existing safety management systems.” Read more.
