NATA and Industry Partners Support Fair Treatment of Pilots Facing Certificate Revocations

NATA recently joined AOPA and NBAA in an amicus brief in support of a pilot with an impeccable record who is facing a certificate action proceeding before the NTSB. The pilot failed a drug test after an accidental ingestion of a medication containing a small amount of amphetamine. We would like to thank Jamie Rodriguez and the team at Holland and Knight for their assistance in drafting the brief. “NATA is pleased to join with AOPA and NBAA to advocate for the fair treatment of pilots, a vital segment of the aviation workforce now facing decline. NATA supports the amicus brief as it stands, we and our industry partners note that the FAA has allowed suspensions in similar cases and this sets a dangerous precedent going forward,” stated NATA COO and General Counsel Timothy Obitts. Read more.

NATA Staff Participate in MBAA’s Third Annual Safety Day Event

Last week, NATA’s Ryan Waguespack and Megan Eisenstein attended the third annual Massachusetts Business Aviation Association’s (MBAA) Safety Day in Burlington, MA. With the event’s primary focus on emergency preparedness and response, Ryan spoke to conference attendees on NATA’s efforts to combat illegal charter operations, and Megan addressed the ongoing government-industry effort to educate the business and general aviation community on the risk of jet fuel contamination with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Megan also discussed NATA’s proposed changes to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 409 – Standard on Aircraft Hangars. The next MBAA Safety Day is scheduled for December 2, 2020.

NATA Introduces “Get To Know FBOs” Initiative

NATA provides a well-rounded  perspective on the FBO industry through our Get to Know FBOs campaign. Fixed base operators (FBOs) are the primary service providers to business and general aviation aircraft operators and serve as the gateway to communities nationwide. FBOs enter into public/private partnerships that generate billions of dollars of investments at general aviation and commercial airports throughout the United States and around the world. FBOs also provide essential services to keep general aviation healthy, sustainable and successful – many going above the call in participating in disaster relief efforts, charitable efforts, workforce development, and community outreach. Help us by sharing images and information on your website as well as on your social media channels and other communications.

Bombardier Aviation Receives Inaugural Shipment of Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Montreal from Avfuel

Bombardier has developed an apprenticeship program with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to develop local skills as it ramps up manufacturing of the Global 7500 wing in Red Oak, Texas. The Canadian manufacturer acquired the Global 7500 wing program in Red Oak from Triumph Group earlier this year and signed a lease to continue production of the wing line there. Further, Bombardier retained the employees who supported the program. Looking forward, Bombardier and TSTC have developed a two-year Bombardier aviation apprenticeship to help build a pipeline for that program, as well as provide students with an entry into the aerospace sector. Students will train at TSTC’s facilities and receive on-the-job training, enabling them “to benefit at no cost from industry-tailored modules, experienced instructors, tools, and equipment and financial support,” Bombardier said. The program covers health, safety, and quality best practices; aircraft drawing and specification comprehension; “manufacturing appreciation of standard;” and regulatory compliance, among other topics.
