General Aviation’s Contribution to U.S. Economy Remains Strong

Last week, NATA and a group of general aviation associations welcomed an updated study detailing the contributions of general aviation to the U.S. economy. The study, conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, determined that general aviation supports a total 1,179,200 jobs and a total of $246.8 billion in total economic output in the U.S.

NATA along with the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA), Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), Helicopter Association International (HAI), and National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) sponsored the study, with the support from JETNET LLC. and Conklin & de Decker. Leaders of the associations expressed confidence in the study’s portrayal of the expanding breadth and depth of the general aviation industry.

To determine the total U.S. economic impact of general aviation, the study calculated the direct, indirect, induced and enabled economic impacts, based on the most recent data available from 2018. The PricewaterhouseCoopers study is available here.

FAA Fly Safe: Addressing GA Safety

This month’s installment of the FAA’s Fly Safe: Addressing GA Safety series focuses on mountain flying. While flying over mountains provides a beautiful scenery, it is challenging because of operational altitudes, higher winds, and the increased risk of fatality. It is essential that you attend a recognized mountain flying course to gain the knowledge and skills you will need. Contact your local FAA Safety Team (FAASTea Rep) or an FAA Flight Standards District Office to receive references. The FAA and GA community’s national #FlySafe campaign helps to educate GA pilots about safety, including loss of control (LOC), powerplant failure, and controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).

This series will show you how you can incorporate safety into every flight.
