FAA Appropriations Bill Reaches Senate Floor
The full Senate Appropriations Committee approved for floor action its version of the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2015 that will begin on October 1, 2014. The bill provides $15.86 billion to the FAA for next year, $580 million above the administration request. Similar to its House counterpart, the legislation prohibits the FAA from finalizing or implementing new aviation user fees. A report prepared by the Committee accompanies the legislation and provides greater detail on the spending levels for individual FAA programs as well as expressions of congressional interest and required reports on a variety of aviation related subjects. Washington Governor Proclaims June as General Aviation Appreciation Month
Washington Governor Jay Inslee recently signed a proclamation declaring June 2014 as Aviation Appreciation Month. Across the Evergreen State, there are 134 public-use airports that support 248,500 jobs and $50.9 billion in economic activity. There are 44 charter flight companies, 113 repair stations and 64 FBOs in the state. “General aviation and community airports play critical roles in the lives of Washingtonians, as well as the operation of businesses, industry, ranches and farms,” Governor Inslee stated in the proclamation.

Retired Learjet 24 and Gulfstream GIISP Bring Valuable Training Opportunities and a Piece of Aviation History to Los Angeles-Based Aviation School
Veteran pilot and business aviation pioneer Clay Lacy donated two iconic business jets, a non-flying Learjet 24 and Gulfstream GIISP, to an aircraft mechanics school at Van Nuys Airport, marking the largest single gift in the adult education program’s history. Operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District, the North Valley Occupational Center-Aviation (NVOC-Aviation) has prepared students for highly skilled, well-paying careers as aircraft mechanics for over 40 years and holds an over 90 percent job placement rate for graduates who pass required Federal Aviation Administration exams. Universal Aviation and Le Castellet Airport Reach Agreement to Co-brand FBO
Universal Aviation and Le Castellet Airport (LFMQ) announced at EBACE 2014 in Geneva that the airport’s FBO will become a co-branded member of the Universal Aviationsm ground support network. Under the agreement, Universal Aviation will partner with the airport to operate the FBO, which will adhere to the same consistent procedures, standards and training protocol at all Universal Aviation locations. Piper Seneca Renovation Helping Mechanical Dreams Take Flight
Keystone Aviation, a TAC Air company, has donated a Piper Seneca to the Salt Lake City Community College aviation department. The aircraft’s engines were removed, its wings demated from the fuselage, and all components were loaded and transported by students to the college’s Salt Lake City aviation campus. According to Todd Baird, a mechanical aviation instructor with the college, the aircraft made an impact starting with the disassembly. Read more.
