NATA Comments of AOPA Petition to Amend the FAA's Flying Club Policy
On Friday, NATA submitted comments on AOPA's proposed changes to flying club policy to allow flying clubs to compensate instructors and mechanics. Current policy limits such compensation to reduced club dues or aircraft time. Responding on behalf of NATA, Megan Eisenstein, Senior Manager for Regulatory Affairs observed, "It is critical that any policy change be communicated in a manner that prevents confusion, discord or complaints. Changes to the current guidance will require an effort on the part of the agency to ensure that effective education is provided to airport sponsors to guide them in determining what constitutes a genuine flying club versus a commercial entity." NATA Submits Comments on FAA Order 8120.16A, SUP Program
Today, NATA submitted comments on the FAA’s revision to Order 8120.16A, Suspected Unapproved Parts (SUP) Program. The purpose of the revision is an administrative change to reflect transfer of Office of Responsibility (OPR) from Flight Standards Service, Aircraft Maintenance Division (AFS-350) to the Aircraft Certification Service, Design, Manufacturing and Airworthiness Division (AIR-100). NATA supports the revision and “agrees with the FAA when it states in the revised Order that an improperly maintained/altered part may not be an unapproved part, but rather a part that is rendered ineligible for installation because the part was not maintained in accordance with the provisions of 14 CFR, Part 43.” For further information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details
