Teterboro Airport Forms New Policy to Deal With FBO Gridlock

In the midst of the holiday traffic crush, New Jersey’s Teterboro airport is experiencing high operational volume, which is expected to continue through the end of the year. As a result, some of the smaller FBO ramps at the Metro New York-area business aviation gateway have been filled to capacity, causing gridlock and the potential for delays throughout the airport. The airport has implemented new procedures to minimize delays. When ramp space at a particular FBO is severely constrained, all aircraft destined for that location will be instructed by ATC to taxi to a holding point on the air operations area and — as stressed by airport manager Renee Spann — to contact the preferred FBO of their anticipated arrival time before ramp acceptance. The FBO will inform the pilot as to space availability and whether or not to expect delays. If the FBO cannot accommodate the aircraft, the pilot will be told to contact the Airport Operations frequency (130.575), which will suggest an alternative based on space availability.
