NATA Statement on Omnibus Funding for Unleaded Fuel

Washington, DC, January 3, 2023 – The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 signed by the President late last week supports general aviation’s progress toward a lead-free future. The legislation includes $10 million for additional fuel testing and evaluation to assist the collaborative industry-government effort to move general aviation to a fleetwide drop-in, lead-free fuel solution no later than 2030.

National Air Transportation Association (NATA) President and CEO Curt Castagna issued the following statement: “NATA is pleased to see congressional support of this comprehensive initiative. With EPA’s proposed endangerment finding regarding lead emissions from aviation gasoline, this funding is critical to a timely and rational transition to lead-free fuel that preserves safety and access to the National Airspace System for the entire GA piston aircraft fleet. At the same time, the Association and its members are focused on educational support and airport infrastructure that places safety and public-private partnerships in the forefront, preparing aviation businesses to support a lead-free future for general aviation.”
