NATA was disappointed to learn that its appeal to approve proposed TIA 1539 was denied by the NFPA Standards Council. TIA 1539 sought to remove the retroactive requirement from section 5.1.12.4 of the NFPA 407- Standard for Aircraft Fuel Servicing, which requires all fuel facility loading racks to be equipped with automatic shutdown (“scully type”) systems by June of 2021.

“While disappointed in the outcome, we are grateful for the opportunity to be heard on this issue,” said Steve Berry, NATA’s Manager of Fuel Quality and Safety. NATA’s TIA 1539 had tremendous public support with more than 300 public comments in support of removing the retroactive language from the standard. “This issue is far from over and we plan to seek alternative routes to provide the GA industry the relief it needs from this costly, onerous, and unnecessary requirement,” Berry added.
